Shifting Horizons
Dhaka's Urban Metamorphosis (2023–)
Medium: Photography
"Shifting Horizons" is an ongoing photographic exploration capturing the dynamic and ever-changing face of Dhaka city. This project delves into the relentless urban expansion that continuously reshapes the city's landscape. Wetlands are vanishing, hills are being leveled, and industries are encroaching upon riverbanks, portraying the unstoppable tide of urbanization. Employing a square format aesthetic, each photograph serves as a visual record of Dhaka's gradual transformation, inviting viewers to react on the city's evolving identity. The project aims to chronicle this urban growth while highlighting its profound environmental and social repercussions. By documenting these shifts, "Shifting Horizons" aspires to raise awareness about the long-term impacts of urbanization and ensure these changes are preserved for future generations. Focusing on key areas of transformation—such as the disappearance of wetlands, the leveling of hills, and industrial encroachments along vital riverbanks—each image tells a story of adaptation and loss in the face of development. Through photography, this ongoing work captures the essence of Dhaka’s metamorphosis, urging viewers to pause, react, and consider the cost of progress on the natural and social fabric of the city.
