In Nepal’s Lamjung District, Ghale Gaun is a Gurung village balancing ancestral traditions with tourism- driven change. Community-led homestays, introduced in the early 2000s, shifted reliance from remittances to tourism, fostering economic stability. Yet, the younger generation leaves their hometown to the big city of Nepal and also abroad for a better future, leaving the elders at home. New roads and improved connectivity reshape the landscapes while villagers sustain organic farming and crafts. As elders await the youth’s return, Ghale Gaun reflects on global tensions between preserving cultural identity and embracing modernity, embodying resilience through evolving traditions in a changing world
